Russell Yerger v. HHS - Influenza, right-sided shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA) (2026)

Russell Yerger, a 62-year-old male, received an influenza vaccine on September 25, 2023. He alleges he suffered a right-sided shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA) as a result.

Mr. Yerger experienced immediate pain at the injection site, which intensified over time.

He first sought medical attention for the pain on December 18, 2023, and was seen by his primary care provider on February 6, 2024, who noted the pain began after the flu shot and was suggestive of an inflammatory reaction. Subsequent investigations, including an MRI, revealed a tear of the supraspinatus tendon, infraspinatus tendinopathy, and subdeltoid bursitis.

He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right rotator cuff on September 6, 2024. The parties stipulated to entitlement as a Table SIRVA claim and proceeded to damages.

Chief Special Master Corcoran awarded Mr. Yerger $115,000.00 for pain and suffering and $9,536.24 for unreimbursable medical expenses, totaling $124,536.24.
