Becky Bright v. HHS - Influenza, left shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (“SIRVA”) (2025)

Becky Bright, a fifty-year-old occupational health nurse, filed a petition for compensation under the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program on March 11, 2020. She alleged that she suffered a left shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA) after receiving an influenza vaccine on September 27, 2018, along with a pneumococcal vaccine.

Her right deltoid received the flu and pneumococcal vaccines, while her left deltoid received a Tdap vaccine. She reported pain in her right deltoid on November 26, 2018, approximately sixty days after vaccination.

After seeing an orthopedist and undergoing an MRI, she was diagnosed with right rotator cuff tear and impingement tendonitis. She underwent arthroscopic surgery on March 21, 2019.

The court found that Petitioner met the criteria for a Table SIRVA, with causation presumed. The court awarded Becky Bright $105,000.00 for pain and suffering and $2,499.78 for out-of-pocket unreimbursed expenses, for a total award of $107,499.78.

A subsequent decision on October 10, 2025, awarded attorney's fees and costs totaling $36,638.86.
